411 calls no longer free

Customers who use the 411 to call for directory assistance will soon have to pay for this service.

This follows the granting of permission from the ICTA to Cable & Wireless to charge customers for these calls, states a press release.

The new flat rate of 50 cents, allowing for two numbers per call, will take effect 12 December.

This is the direct result of the liberalisation of the telecommunications market in the Cayman Islands as companies try to ensure that the prices charged for services cover the costs of providing those services.

It should be noted that Cable & Wireless becomes the third telecoms company in the Cayman Islands to charge for directory assistance.

Cable & Wireless would like to remind customers that the free 2005/6 services directory is available and they should make every effort to collect it. Having this directory will limit the need to call 411.

Customers may also access the directory online at www.candw.ky, quick links – phonebook or at www.caymanislandsyp.com.

For more information customers should visit any C&W retail location or log on to www.candw.ky
