One of the biggest events on Cayman’s special events and entertainment calendar will woo car enthusiasts and motor sports fans and set the pace for other events throughout the year, a press release says.
The Texaco International Auto Show takes place on Saturday, 21 January 2006 at the Lions Centre. Originally scheduled for 19 November 2005, the show had to be postponed due to adverse weather.
But, according to the organisers, this has provided an opportunity to add even more driving excitement to the Show’s format. GT Automotive has been added to the list of sponsors, which include title sponsor Texaco, along with Car City, Arch Automotive, Tony’s Toys, Auto Haus, Motor World, Discount Tyres, Cartronics, Cayman General Insurance, Cayman Airways, WestTel Limited, Sky Wireless and Cayman Free Press.
They, along with participating booth holders, will provide show patrons with a range of state-of-the-art 2006 vehicles; show cars, vintage cars, performance cars, trucks, jet skis, bikes, car accessories and information on local auto services.
Kirk Rampersad, sales and marketing manager at Style FM, one of the key organisers of the event said: ‘A lot more cars have registered to take part in all aspects of the show and everyone is looking forward to a great time.’
Entertainment stakes will be high with the likes of visiting celebrity, Nascar Busch Series driver, Donnie Neuenberger. Following his participation in the Quincentennial car Show held in 2003, this appearance will make Donnie’s second visit to Grand Cayman.
He is being hosted by Arch Automotive, who will also have an authentic Nascar Stock Car at the show. Patrons can have their photographs taken with this genuine track vehicle which has been used to qualify and race at the speedways. Donnie Neuenberger will also sign autographs.
Local car aficionados will vie for coveted trophies in divisions like Best Performance Vehicle, Best In Car Entertainment and Best Classic Vehicle, the press release continued.
Performances by local bands, live radio entertainment and plenty of food and fun will keep the entire family entertained. There will be a number of door prizes, thousands of dollars in promotional giveaways, a set of 18 inch rims and tires courtesy of Tony’s Toys, and a chance to win a trip to Trinidad Carnival 2006.
On Sunday, 22 January, from 1pm to 6 pm, patrons will witness the ultimate drag racing showdown as local racers turn up the heat at the East End race track.
