I am usually a very tolerant person, but all the talk about the cruise ship filled with gays that came here has me asking many questions about the people I come across each day who call themselves Christians.
As a child I went to church, but my Sunday school teachers never taught me to hate or discriminate.
I am a mother; any of my children could be gay. But I will not turn my back on my child or discriminate against him or her.
How many of you Christians have asked yourselves if it was your child or family member what would you do? Better yet, ask yourselves what would Jesus do?
I have a few questions. Why are the women in some of our churches told they are not to wear pants, nail polish, make-up or jewelry? But those Christian women have their hair dyed, straightened and weaved. Oh and lets not forget those who buy those bleaching creams to lighten their skin, the skin that God created them with.
Should we not be more concerned about the more than 200 divorces in the Cayman Islands in 2005 (results of unhappy and/or bad marriages), and all the juvenile delinquents (those unfortunate children whose parents put material things and their partners before their children) and all those Christian mothers and fathers who benefit from drug money made by their children.
Oh and lets not forget all those holy Christians who encourage you to go to church and yet use the Bible to do evil to people.
Why do these people who as we Caymanians say knock down the church door several times a week believe because they ask God for forgiveness they can continue to be wicked and judge others.
Yes pastors and ministers, many of your churches are filled with these people. Can we protest and speak out against them. Until the leaders of the churches on these beloved Cayman Islands begin to speak against these things and practice what they preach we will be no better off.
Finally, two-thirds of the people in the world are not Christian, and half of those who are can’t even agree on which Bible to use. Our personal relationships with God are what will matter in the end.
Stop fighting against people because of their sexual preferences, race or nationality. This is not the traditional Caymanian Christian community that I know.
