The Attic donates to Bonaventure

The Attic, a popular sports destination on Seven Mile Beach, donated cue sticks and other billiards accessories to the Bonaventure Home for Boys in West Bay.

This donation follows the Attic’s 2004 gift of a billiard table for the home.

In spring of 2004, The Attic donated eight used billiard tables to local charitable groups and government organizations, stated a press release.

‘The Attic is committed to supporting worthy causes such as the Bonaventure Home, which addresses local children’s needs and will also have a dramatically positive effect on the rest of their lives,’ said Scott McLean, manager of the O Bar and The Attic.

The Bonaventure Home is an entity of the Children and Youth Service Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people with difficulties to help them to achieve their full potential,.

The boys, who range from 10 to 18 years old, are taught a range of social skills, life studies and vocational skills such as wood work, mechanical engine craft, plastics and construction. The home also offers school-based programs and provides extra tutoring.

Mr. Myles called on local companies and individuals for their support. This can be done in a variety of ways, he explained.

Some people provide gift certificates which are given those who do well in a community or school project as part of the home’s rewards initiative. Others provide monetary assistance or simply go in and visit the boys. He also appealed to business owners to offer the boys work placements.
