Cayman spirit inspires

Spirit Airlines has announced it has named its newest A319 aircraft Spirit of Cayman Islands.

Vice President of Sales and Distribution for the US-based airline, Marc Cavaliere gave the news Friday.

He also announced that the city of San Francisco – the 29tth destination in its system – is being added to the airline’s network later this year.

‘Our objective in coming here is not to jockey for existing market share but rather to work in partnership with the Cayman Islands to increase the total amount of traffic and grow the business.

‘We want to open the place up and make it more accessible, and everyone benefits from that,’ he said.

‘Competition is good. We operate a very lean and efficient airline and it allows us to have lower operating costs and so pass on lower fares to the public,’ he said.

‘Most of the airlines adhere to the new industry standard of 50 pounds per piece of luggage and we allow two pieces per passenger,’ said Mr. Cavaliere.

‘People do go shopping and we have provisions to carry a reasonable amount of excess baggage,’ he said.

‘We have reasonable provisions to accommodate a reasonable amount of excess baggage but we have to recognise that the majority of our passengers are not necessarily shoppers,’ he said.

‘Our fares are so reasonable that we think our customers will be delighted with being able to make multiple trips and not have to limit themselves to one annual shopping pilgrimage,’ he added.

‘We are recognised as the fastest growing airline in the Caribbean. We are considered the low air fare airline in the Caribbean,’ he told the Compass.

‘We are a low fare airline but is not just about price, it’s got to be about service; reliable service as well,’ he said.
