The Truth for Youth netball team closed out the 2005-2006 Inter-Primary School Netball Rally on Saturday, 11th February, as undefeated champions. This victory made them double champions as they were also undefeated in the league.
TFY claimed the League Championship on the 27th of January after beating an unsuspecting Red Bay Primary. Red Bay Primary’s team never saw the loss coming as they were also undefeated in the league and had proclaimed themselves the champions several weeks before.
The Truth for Youth team came into the game cool and collected and at the end of the first half was up 6-4. In the second half, TFY pulled away strongly and only allowed Red Bay to score 1 more goal for the rest of the game. The final score was 10-5.
TFY’s Kayla Solomon (Goal Defense) showed great defensive skills as she kept one of Red Bay’s stars Tacita Berry (Goal Attack) out of the shooting circle in the second half. Impressive offensive strength and shooting skill was shown as TFY’s Glennique Bodden (Goal Attack) and Kristen Forbes(Goal Shooter) continued to rack up points for their team.
Coach Orvin Palacio of the TFY team used this victory to carry his team into the Rally confident but humble. The team’s captain Lexie Solomon (Center), and Felicia Connor (WA) showed great poise as they assisted in passing and guiding the ball and the play in all areas of the court.
Triple C School, North Side Primary, Prospect Primary, and George Town Primary and Truth for Youth all played in Group 1 at the Rally. TFY once again dominated all the games until they met with GT Primary who held them at a 1-1 draw. Because of this draw and goal difference, TFY went into the semi-finals as 2nd in their group, once again pitted to play the anxious Red Bay Primary. The highly emotional game began and at the end of the allotted 7 minutes and the dust had cleared, the game was at a 3-3 draw. The officials then put 2 minutes on the clock to break the tie. Tensions were high as TFY scored 1 goal early on and Red Bay lost their cool and allowed the time to run off without them scoring a goal. Defeated for the second time, Red Bay Primary left the court to play West Bay Primary for 3rd place.
Truth for Youth played a clean final against George Town Primary and made up for the earlier draw by winning 5 to 1. The enormous TFY representation of parents and supporters swarmed the courts to rejoice with their team as they were declared by the Rally Officials as the 2005-06 Inter-primary School Netball League and Rally Champions. Also present to cheer on their fellow netballers were the past TFY netball 2000-01 champions.
Coach Orvin praised his team.
‘The girls hard work paid off, they came into the Rally winners but remained focused on playing championship quality netball.,’ Orvin said. ‘The outpouring of support from their parents, friends and the staff of Truth for Youth just added to the success of the day.’
