A security guard was shot in an armed raid on a bank in West Bay at lunchtime Friday.
The guard was working at the Cayman National Bank, Centennial Towers, when two raiders reportedly entered the bank.
The guard was taken to hospital but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
A 17-year-old West Bay youth in the bank at the time, but who did not wish to be identified, told the Caymanian Compass that two men had come into the bank, one armed with an M16 and the other with a handgun.
The security guard, trying to protect people inside, ended up shot in the arm, he said.
The 17-year-old said one of the men jumped over the counter and the other stayed by the door.
The men ended up running out of the bank and jumping into a white jeep, in which a driver was waiting, and the vehicle drove off.
It was not known if the men had escaped with any money or if so, how much.
Police immediately cordoned off the building and set up traffic checks.
They have launched an investigation into the robbery and a hunt for the men and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
