Bacardi Gras King and Queen

X 107.1, Cayman’s number one hit music station; O Bar, Cayman’s premier night club; and Calico Jack’s, Cayman’s top beachside bar; were proud to co-host ‘Bacardi Gras’ on 28 February, attracting a huge turnout at Calico Jack’s on Public Beach to celebrate Mardi Gras in true New Orleans style, a press release said.

Partygoers donned their Mardi Gras beads and clothes to compete to be named the King and Queen of ‘Bacardi Gras.’ Stephen Etheridge and Tansy Maki were named as the lucky pair and won a selection of prizes including a trip to Florida, a parasailing ride, use of the X 107.1 Corvette (sponsored by Chevrolet and Kirk Motors) and a bottle of champagne.

Other contenders also won prizes including an Atlantis submarine tour and a BBQ Grill.

The celebration, which was sponsored by Bacardi, featured flare bartenders, fire dancing, fresh New Orleans-style oysters, and hurricane cocktail specials.

Music was provided by world-famous guest DJ Czech, accompanied by O Bar’s DJs: Gatringer and Tyler Collins.

Later in the evening, shuttles took partygoers to O Bar to continue the celebrations.

O Bar Manager, Scott McLean commented: ‘We were really excited about the huge response to this first time event. We’ve already started making plans for next year, guaranteeing it will be the largest Mardi Gras party on the island.’

Parts of the proceeds raised from the event will go to the Bonaventure Home for Boys in West Bay, an entity of the Children and Youth Service (CAYS) Foundation, which is a local non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people with difficulties, helping them to achieve their full potential by providing care and support through its residential and day programs.
