C&W International clarified

On 31 January 2006 Cable and Wireless plc (Cable & Wireless) announced several changes to its structure and management, including the creation of two self-contained operational units – International and UK – to reflect the differing characteristics of the two and enable improved focus on the international businesses.

Last week, Cable & Wireless plc announced further clarity on these changes relating to its governance structure, including the creation of separate operating boards for the UK business and the International businesses.

Cable & Wireless UK and International will have its own balance sheets and the appropriate capital structure to ensure effective deployment of resources to their operations, states a press release.

Lord Robertson of Port Ellen will step down from the Cable & Wireless plc board and become non-executive Chairman of C&W International, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of international affairs.

Cable & Wireless International will continue to be led by Harris Jones, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive, International businesses.

Harris Jones commented: ‘The changes reflect the importance that Cable & Wireless places on our International Businesses and recognise our long-term commitment to investing in our customers, employees and the communities in which we operate, around the world.’

Cable & Wireless International encompasses all the subsidiary and associate national telecoms companies around the globe. The International businesses are characterised by the small, usually island-based, economies in which C&W operates and has proven capabilities. It is proud to be contributing to the local economies and communities it serves and continues to build its brand and deliver excellence to customers around the world.
