Fraser promotes GAIM conference

Caymanian swimming sensation Shaune Fraser will feature on the cover of fhe Cayman Financial Review, which is producing a special publication for the GAIM Cayman hedge funds conference being held at The Ritz Carlton next month.

A photo of Fraser will be used to complement the cover title Best of Breed in reference to Cayman’s successful hedge fund sector.

‘It is great to see young Caymanian athletes such as Shaune recognised in this way. This gesture by the Cayman Financial Review is a creative example of how the business community can promote and recognise our youth,’ said Sports Minister Alden Mclaughlin.

‘We thought that a powerful image of one of Cayman’s athletes would work very well with the focus of the cover,’ said Paul Byles publisher at Tower Media group. ‘In order to represent the success of the hedge fund sector, we needed an image which was distinctly Caymanian and that communicated the ideas of ‘success’ and ‘strength’ at the same time. Shaune Fraser and his achievements in swimming do exactly that,’ added Byles.

The hedge fund publication features articles on a range of topics focused on all the key issues currently dominating this asset class, states a press release.

Operational risk management and due diligence for investors are attracting particular attention at the moment, amid the exponential growth of the sector and the increased attention coming from regulators.

Also coming in for discussion are some of the new strategies being employed to generate additional returns in what has now become quite a crowded market.

Additionally there are articles providing updates on the regulatory picture in Cayman, Bermuda and the British Virgin Islands, as well as the relationship between hedge funds and pension funds and analysis of the new regulatory landscape now that many hedge fund managers are required to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Fraser’s mother Laurice was delighted at the news.

“From a very young age, Shaune has been very focused and determined to achieve his goals. He loves competition, whether it is in swimming or academics and intends to explore his potential to the fullest. He’s an inspiring role model for his two younger brothers and hopefully for his peers at home and abroad,” she said.

Over 20 hedge funds related service providers are represented in the supplement which will be mailed to 3,000 key financial services contacts internationally and to a further 500 senior executives in the local business community.

The GAIM Cayman conference is the first visit to the Cayman Islands by the Global Alternative Investment Management group to this country. The event is expected to attract 500 delegates and will be attended by the world’s most influential and authoritative experts on hedge funds, from both the buy and sell side.
