This May, as most people around the islands wake up to give their mothers homemade Mother’s Day gifts, many will not be able to do so because they are in jail.
But regardless of the fact, some prisoners at Northward Prison were busy on Monday creating their own one-of-a-kind Mother’s Day card.
Like children in Santa’s workshop the group of inmates was busy as bees having a good time picking colours, flowers, glitter and words for their cards in Sharon Lamb’s class; a volunteer teacher at the prison on Mondays.
‘Mothers are special no matter what the situation,’ said teacher Lamb. In an attempt to help the families to survive the situation of loved ones in prison during this special time of the year, the inmates are encouraged to show their appreciation and gratitude for that special someone.
‘It is important for prisoners to maintain relationship with wives, children mothers, husbands etc and therefore we make cards for every occasion to be set out to loved ones.
‘They try very hard in my class and I am very proud of and pleased with their achievements.
