National League semis off to great start

The Foster’s National League semi-final round started with a bang this past weekend at the Annex Field. George Town and Roma United were victorious over their opponents Money Express and Scholars, respectively, with one – nil wins. The matches were well-contested, physical games. On both occasions, the Annex was very well attended and the players provided the level of excitement expected by the spectators.

Clay Coleman, Team Captain for George Town Sports Club (GTSC), thought their strategy worked well in terms of what they set out to do. Money Express is a good attacking team and therefore we came defensively and handled the attack from Money Express well. He also said that a number of players are injured, however they are treating their injuries and do not expect this to affect the second Leg on Monday. GTSC is looking forward to another good game and expect that Money Express will come out fighting to make up for the loss.

Scholars International Coach, Antonio Smith said that Scholars ‘had their strategy in place but the team did not put it together. The game plan was changed; Roma played a better game, dominated and took charge.’ He also said that Scholars is going back to the drawing board and that Roma United should expect a different game this coming Sunday.

When asked about their win on Sunday, Roma United Head Coach Vincent Mitchell said, ‘It’s Incredible!’ He thinks this is Roma’s just reward, given that they have been in the League since the 80’s and this is their first time in the semi-finals. He attributes the success to the hard work of the players. Coach Mitchell also stated that Roma’s strategy worked well, as they strived to get the players to work as a team and everyone followed instructions. Roma is looking forward to meeting their well-respected opponents Scholars International this Sunday at the Annex. They expect this game to be even more difficult.

Come out to support your team again this weekend at the Annex. Roma United versus Scholars kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday May 14th, 2006 and George Town will face off with Money Express at 4:00 P.M. on Monday May 15th, 2006.
