Cayman has a new district coming soon. District 6 nightclub and lounge is set to open shortly and according to co-owner Jaenas Pangilinan, it will be the largest in Cayman.
Previously the Chameleon, the nightclub, located at The Strand, West Bay Road, has had a total overhaul and provides a classy venue for residents and tourists to party the night away.
The brainchild of Mr. Pangilinan and co-owner James Lurenson, the club will feature music from the top 40s, with nights dedicated to other genres such as Latin, soca and R&B. Planned are private parties which will be ticket only including a masquerade and midsummer night event.
‘We want to bring something different to Cayman,’ Mr. Pangilinan said, explaining that the idea came about when they saw the demand for high-class venues such as the Ritz-Carlton.
‘We want to try to cater to a more sophisticated crowd,’ he said, adding that District 6’s location at The Strand is ideal.
The club, sequentially named after the five districts of Cayman, has taken the bold decision to go without a resident DJ for the time being and make use of the large number of DJs on island. Looking forward District 6 plans to play host to world-renowned DJs, adding a frisson of excitement to Cayman’s music scene.
At 51,000 square feet, the nightclub holds a total of 350 and features a downstairs bar area and dance floor and a VIP lounge area upstairs. A sushi and martini bar is planned in the not too distant future.
The club features dramatic cathedral ceilings and has been infused with a bold colour palette with accents of bright reds, oranges and yellows. A bright red spiral staircase serves as an eye-catching centre-piece.
The bar, Mr. Pangilinan explained, has been moved next to the dance floor as well as the DJ booth.
‘The idea is to create a house-party atmosphere. We hope that by moving the bar within closer proximity of the dance floor it will create more of a busy feel,’ he commented.
Other features include a outdoor patio, sleek waterfall wall behind the bar area, fog machines and an overall elegant decor, ideal in which to party the night away.
District 6 has had a soft opening over the past few weeks and a number of these nights have already seen the club almost full to capacity.
‘The soft opening has been really exciting and we are looking forward to our grand opening,’ Mr. Pangilinan said.
The club’s grand opening will be held Friday, 26 May from 9pm featuring complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drinks. A DJ will spin a mix of the top 40s, spiked with a selection of hip-hop and house music. Club opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9pm to 3am, Saturday and Sunday 8pm to 12am. Dress smart/casual.
