Sapphire martini lounge and sushi bar was packed out last Wednesday week as music aficionados gathered for the first Chunkygrooves event.
DJ Ollie Clarke was on hand spinning an eclectic mix of funk, soul and rare groove from the 1960s and 70s, proving an instant hit.
Sapphire staff greeted guests with complimentary champagne cocktails, while a projected video montage – featuring music pioneers and celebrity figures from the 1960s and 70s – on the bar’s ceiling topped off a truly groovy event.
What made Chunkygrooves so exciting is the fact that many of the DJs records are rare and almost impossible to find today, ensuring guests were treated to a music set with a difference.
Sponsored by What’s Hot, Cayman’s premier monthly magazine, the event will be held on the second Wednesday of every month.
Teritia Peart, product co-ordinator, said that Chunkygrooves was a great success and is just one of many exciting events readers of What’s Hot magazine can look forward to in coming months.
‘Sapphire proved to be the ideal place to host such an event and it was obvious by the turn-out that Chunkygrooves is destined to go from strength-to-strength. There is already a great deal of hype surrounding the next Chunkygrooves event.’
Chunkygrooves will be held Wednesday, 14 June at Sapphire, Seven Mile Shops, West Bay Road. For more information go to www.whatshot.ky.
