Leg 2 of the Cable and Wireless Summer Sevens Series is set to kick off at 11am this Saturday June 3rd at 11am at the South Sound Pitch.
Cable & Wireless have stepped forward to sponsor both the National Sevens team and the series of five tournaments to be held in Cayman each year in order to develop the national team for world competition. The Cable & Wireless National team won the first leg of the Sevens in February and now look forward to trying to extend that to two in a row. Of course the other four teams in the premier division will be looking to make sure that does not happen. The Butterfield Bank Irish Wolfhounds will be looking to improve their fifth place finish while the Southern Men will be looking to win the final this time around. The host team ama-tsotsi will also be looking to finish strong and of course the Don Fosters Dive Iguanas are a force to be reckoned with.
In the development division the Maples and Calder Sevens Academy also will be looking for their second win of the series while PWC the Clydesdales and Oldies will be chasing hard to get more points in the overall title race.
The second leg of the Cable & Wireless sevens will also be used by many of the Cayman players as a warm up to the Deloitte Cayman sevens scheduled to take place at the Truman Bodden sports complex on June 9th and 10th when the worlds best players will converge on the Cayman Islands for the sixth time in as many years.
The host team theme for leg 2 is South Africa and there will be South African feature beer and wine as well as Boerie Rolls, steak rolls, pap n’ wors, potjie kos.
In the evening A live two piece band will play South African songs from 6 – 8pm and a dance will follow. There is no charge for entry and all are welcome.
