Caymanian Golda Tatum-Carter was one of the first students to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University College of the Cayman Islands.
This will allow Golda to pursue her dream of becoming a Certified Public Accountant, a career path supported by PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Cayman Islands.
‘Needless to say I’m very excited’, says Golda. ‘I’m making history as one of the first UCCI graduates in this programme, plus I have moral and financial support from PwC to sit the CPA exam.’
In the past, students have had to complete their undergraduate degrees in the United States. However, the new UCCI Bachelors degree programme, which offers accounting as one of five majors, has now been given preliminary approval by several American states for graduates to sit the CPA exams in their states. These include Colorado, Delaware, New Hampshire and Vermont.
PwC Senior Partner Nick Freeland believes this is an important step forward for young Caymanians pursuing CPAs.
‘UCCI’s progress is a triumph and will benefit many Caymanian students wishing to launch careers as professionally qualified accountants.
‘We’re very proud of Golda and we’re delighted to be of support in her pursuit of a CPA.’
Golda and the UCCI Class of 2006 graduated 13 July at the university campus.
The UCCI Accounting major, which contains the typical courses found in any undergraduate accounting degree, is based on US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Other UCCI Business Administration majors include economics, finance, management and marketing.
