Plans have been approved to secure Sammy’s Airport Inn as the new home of Cayman Airways, Tourism Minister Charles Clifford told the Legislative Assembly Monday.
The $2.85-million deal closed 21 July, and the government is now accepting proposals for the refurbishment project.
The building has been assessed to be structurally sound, and when completed, the structure will also serve as a hurricane shelter.
The hope is the new headquarters will be able to replace the seven locations Cayman Airways is currently utilizing for office space.
‘This move will provide improved access for patrons and help Cayman Airways progress in its development,’ said Mr. Clifford.
The project will be undertaken in two to three phases, with the target for the first phase to be completed by December, 2006, Mr. Cifford said.
