Scouts off to Jamboree in Ja

A team of Cayman boy Scouts are heading off to the 13th annual Caribbean Jamboree to be held in Portland, Jamaica.

According to Executive Commissioner Winston Hale at the Scouts briefing held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex Tuesday evening, the boys are in for scouting good time.

He said the one-week camp promises to be an exciting affair in one of Jamaica’s pristine tropical havens, Nature’s Way in Portland.

With the theme Rekindling the Flame, the camp promises lots of emphasis on water sports, computer games, tours, hikes, camp fires, cultural activities and a host of other on-site activities to keep Scouts busy and excited all week.

For one week the Scouts will also have the opportunity to meet other Scouts in an atmosphere of cheerfulness and fun in a social and recreational way.

He said the Scouts would share with other scouts many things about their country. One was preparing our national dish the turtle stew and well as staging cultural performances.

The group of 12 boys and leaders leave Cayman today and return 17 August.
