Candles were lit and a pink ribbon cut as part of the opening ceremony for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held at Heroes Square Monday.
Members of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens, along with Health Minister Anthony Eden, were at the ceremony, which included songs, prayers and speeches on the importance of breast cancer awareness.

During her speech, Lions president Norma McField introduced the month’s theme, ‘eat healthy to protect, screen early to detect.’
She encouraged all to take advantage of free clinics and meetings running throughout the month, as well as fundraising activities.

4 October – West Bay awareness meeting, WB Primary School.
9 October – West Bay clinic and North Side awareness meeting, United Church Hall.
12 October – East End clinic.
13 October – Dress down, dress pink day.
17 October– Bodden Town awareness meeting, BT Primary School.
18 October – Bodden Town clinic.
19 October – Savannah awareness meeting, Savannah Primary School.
21 October – 5K run/walk, 6am, WB Road, Public Beach.
23 October – East End awareness meeting, United Church Hall.
24 October – Women’s health centre clinic, 9am to 12pm.
26 October – George Town clinic, Public Health Centre and awareness meeting, Mary Miller Hall.
(All awareness meetings take place at 7.30pm. All clinics are at 10am to noon, except George Town which runs 8am to 10am.)
