This year’s Chamber of Commerce Business Expo will be bigger, better and more attractive than ever, said members of the Expo Taskforce at a press briefing Monday.

Not only has the event been extended by two hours and the number of booths per business limited to allow more exhibitors, but the Lions Centre has been spruced up, and overall security tightened.
Visitors to the islands’ largest business forum will be able to browse around booths allocated to 47 companies in 16 industry sectors this weekend.
As well as attracting more exhibitors than in previous years, Expo organisers are excited by the momentum generated by this year’s event. Not only is Chamber membership up as a direct result of the forthcoming event but businesses wasted no time in signing up quickly for the annual event.
According to expo taskforce Co-Chairmen Brian Barnes and Eddie Thompson, who steered Monday’s briefing, the booths were sold out in record time.
Supply exceeded demand as space offered up at the end of July was sold out by 1 September.
Regardless of the revamps, organisers advised that the thrust of the Expo remains the same: to showcase the range of products and services available on island, as well as providing a unique platform for businesses to network one-on-one with clients and potential customers.
Organisers also reported that unaccompanied children would not be allowed entry to the expo.
Representatives of the event’s premier sponsors, Cayman National Corporation and Cable & Wireless, which are funding the expo, were also present.
Cayman National Bank President Ormond Williams and C&W’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Adam see the Expo as a unique opportunity for companies.
They also said that the Expo was an ideal arena for start-ups, entrepreneurs and bigger businesses to launch and showcase goods and services new to the Cayman Islands.
Mr. Williams said that CNC would be focusing mainly on explaining what Cayman National Trust, Cayman National Securities and Cayman National Insurance Brokers do in terms of wealth management at the expo.
He also advised that a CNB loans officer would be offering debt consolidation and debt deferment plans.
Mr. Adam, who remarked that C & W had increased its sponsorship of the expo this year, said the event would be used to showcase the telecom’s extensive range of products and service, including e-top up and broadband ADSL.
He also mentioned that C&W would be giving away prizes at the show.
Both outlined the huge benefits accruing to exhibitors in terms of exposure, networking opportunities and the chance to market their products and services face-to-face.
The Chamber of Commerce Business Expo 2006 opens Friday (noon – 9pm) and continues on Saturday, (9am – 5pm).
