Marathon runner to raise funds for Humane Society
When the alarm clock goes off at 5am every morning for her marathon training run, Julie Ridsdale’s first instinct is to turn it off and go back to sleep.

However, the prompting wet nose of her four legged running companion Storm, rescued last year from Barkers National Park, is what really makes her get out of bed and head out the door, explains a press release.
On 22 October the training will pay off when Julie and her husband Mike line up with 40,000 other runners for the start of the Chicago Marathon.
‘For Julie, it is a great personal challenge, but it is also the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the Cayman Islands Humane Society,’ the release said.
Inspired to help other animals by the plight of her own dog Storm, who had been badly treated then abandoned, Julie has approached friends and family asking them to sponsor her for the overall distance or for each of the 26 miles.
‘It will be a huge incentive when I am running to know that every step I take is helping the animals at the Humane Society,’ said Julie.
‘I am sure there will be tough times during the race but the thought of the dogs will spur me on. I have trained really hard with Storm always ready to keep me company – if she can be enthusiastic every morning when we head out to run, the least I can do is run as well as I can to help other animals with a disadvantaged background like hers.’
Julie has raised CI$3,100 to date and is hoping to end up with even more.
