The Pink Ladies Volunteer Corps planted a breadfruit tree on Thursday in memory of long-time member Mrs. Yrsa McPeek Parker.
Miss Yrsa was a Pink Lady for over 20 years and also helped the National Council of Volunteer Organisations. She was well known for her work with the NCVO bargain shop and her community service extended to The Pines Retirement Home and Nadine Andreas Children’s Home.
For these reasons it was fitting that Pink Ladies chose to plant the tree in the yard behind the Richard Arch Children’s Centre. The compound includes the Nadine Andreas Home and the recently relocated bargain Shop and it adjoins The Pines.
The breadfruit tree was planted near a logwood that has to be removed because it is becoming a hazard to the children, Mrs. Olive Miller explained. The breadfruit tree will have a fence around it until it is established.
In addition to Pink Ladies, the informal ceremony was attended by members of Miss Yrsa’s family and residents of The Pines.
