Vendors need permits for PW

The Pirates Week Office is reminding the public that only vendors sanctioned by the office are authorized to conduct business during the various functions of the Festival.

‘Vendors wishing to operate downtown in the area bounded by Goring Avenue, Edward Street, Fort Street and Harbour Drive, need to be authorized by the Pirates Week Office,’ Pirates Week Executive Director Dave Martins said in a press release.

The RCIP will be ensuring that no violations take place.’

Similarly, individuals who engage in ambush vending at the various district days by selling food and drinks outside district sites will be made to move by the police.

Chief Inspector Marlon Bodden said, ‘In the recent past, there have been incidents of vendors setting up without being authorized, and this has led to firm action by the police. The police are reminding all vendors to be prepared to show their approved permits to trade if requested to do so; this is so because in some instances, smoke or noise from these violators has disrupted events or caused problems.

‘This is the national festival, and we can’t have this kind of irregularity. The police want everyone in attendance to enjoy themselves lawfully.’

Mr. Martins said: ‘We’re happy to have people provide a service and earn some money during the Festival – that’s why it was set up in the first place – but it has to be done in a way that ensures they pay a set fee to Pirates Week, and that health and safety standards are being met.’
