The Health Practice Council is reminding health practitioners, as well as owners of healthcare facilities, about the correct procedures for obtaining or renewing licences.
Letters have been mailed to health practitioners and facilities owners for them to complete the process, said Health Practice Commission Registrar Shirline Henriques.
Following the procedures allows the council to efficiently process the applications.
‘The applications must be completed and submitted on time,’ Mrs. Henriques said. ‘Once a health practitioner’s license has been granted, the practitioner must pay the fee in a timely manner, in order to physically receive the licence. At this time there is no fee for the licensing of facilities, but discussions are under way to implement them.’
A summary of the correct procedures is as follows:
• Without exception, applications must be submitted two weeks prior to the monthly council meetings. The council meetings are listed below.
Pharmacy Council – 2nd Wednesday
Council for Professions Allied with Medicine – 3rd Tuesday
Medical and Dental Council – 4th Tuesday
Nursing and Midwifery Council – last Thursday
• No application will go to a council unless it is complete, as prescribed by the Health Practice Law. All submitted documents must be original versions or notarised copies.
• At the discretion of council chairpersons, in order to facilitate continuity of care within the community, 30- to 90-day temporary licences may be granted.
• All licenses are to be paid for in timely manner, and the council will issue reminders of payment-due dates. However, if the reminders are not heeded, the names of health practitioners, and of healthcare-facilities owners, may be removed from the register in accordance with section 7 of the Health Practice Regulations (2005)
• Facility owners are required to obtain an occupancy licence from the Planning Department in order to complete the registration process.
Mrs. Henriques invites healthcare practitioners and/or facilities owners to contact the Health Practice Council if they have any questions or need assistance.
