Immigration tests new call system

The Immigration Department is seeking public feedback on its new call centre, officially called the Communications Centre, to eliminate any logistical problems before it becomes fully operational within the next few weeks.

‘We expect that the centre will greatly improve our ability to answer the department’s many phone calls in a more timely manner,’ Chief Immigration Officer Franz Manderson said in a press release.

The test number is 947-2099.

To use the automated system, simply call the number, say what you are calling about – for example, for a work permit inquiry say ‘work permit’ – and the system will connect you to the staff member dealing with that particular area.

Four to six staff members will be available to answer requests in each of the following areas: work permits; Cayman status; permanent residency; business staffing plans; fixed-term permits; and trade and business.

‘This test is important to ensure that the Communications Centre will benefit the public,’ said Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Kerry Nixon. ‘Any input or constructive criticism is welcomed.’
