EE dogs get pampered

Pet pooches in East End are sporting clean new coats thanks to the Humane Society wash day at Ocean Frontiers on Sunday.

A total of 28 dogs got their nails clipped, licensed, shampooed, scrubbed, towel dried and given a doggie treat by the group of volunteers.

Quite pleased with all the attention, the dogs wagged their tails in appreciation and planted great big slobbering kisses on the faces of their pampering friends.

Humane Society board member Suzanne Gatta said the dog wash in East End was the first after Hurricane Ivan and it was a tremendous success.

‘We know there are a lot of people in the community that cannot afford to take their animals to the vet so by proving these wash days in various districts we give people the opportunity to get their dogs licensed, treated and looked after,’ she said.

‘Some volunteers even combed the community looking for dogs to clean up. A lot of people attend church on Sundays and could not take their dogs to the wash but we were able to assist by picking up their dogs.’

Free advice was also handed out to dog owners wanting to hone up on any medical problems their animals might have.
