A newly formed comedy group has been busy working on their debut stand-up show, planned to be staged 20 to 22 November.
The comedy group formed just over six months ago and has named themselves A Random Ill Conceived Sketch Comedy Group: Created in Haste (Cayman) Ltd.
The show, called West Bay Vice, will be held on three consecutive nights at District 6 nightclub.
The group is the brainchild of expatriate David O’Donnell of Ernst & Young, who, after a one year stint in stand-up comedy in Los Angeles, saw a gap in the market for a comedy group in Cayman.
‘I decided to set something up as there are no comedy groups in Cayman,’ he said. ‘I called a friend of mine who I know would be interested and through her I found some other people and we formed this group.’
So far, members are Caymanian John Graham Taylor – a frequent cast member of the annual production Rundown – Canadians Teri Bilewitch, Raine Parsons-Wright, Judy Singh and O’Donnell who originally hails from the US.
The comedy show will include a mix of pre-taped videos by the group, alongside traditional staged sets.
‘During the show we do mock movie trailers and commercials – one of them is a spin off of Miami Vice, hence the name of the show,’ Mr. O’Donnell said.
Tickets cost $10 and are available by calling 925-6304. All proceeds benefit the National Charitable Volunteer Organisation. Doors open at 7.30pm. Show time is 8.30pm.
