Tortuga expands to MoBay

Tortuga Rum Cakes continues to expand as a global brand with the opening of Tortuga CRC Jamaica Ltd’s state-of-the-art bakery and gift shop in Spring Gardens on Reading Main Road in Montego Bay.

The 10,000 square foot facility includes a new bakery for the world-famous Tortuga Caribbean Rum Cakes, a production kitchen for Calypso Gelato (Italian style ice cream) and a café and gift shop.

Visitors can see the rum cakes being baked and gelato produced from the viewing windows, enjoy free samples and dine on the verandah of the Caribbean styled cottage overlooking the water, states a press release.

“Our new facility offers a unique destination for Montego Bay visitors,” says Simonetta Maffessanti, the managing director of Tortuga CRC Jamaica, a franchisee of the Grand Cayman based Tortuga Rum Company.

Attending the grand opening festivities were Robert and Carlene Hamaty, the couple who founded the Tortuga Rum Company in 1984. Today, their family owned company is the largest duty free liquor business in the Cayman Islands, with 16 retail stores and three bakeries. Franchise bakeries also are located in Barbados and Nassau, Bahamas.

“The growth of Tortuga CRC Jamaica reflects their dedication to providing quality products and an inviting customer experience,” says Robert Hamaty, who was born in Jamaica and serves as the country’s Honorary Consul for the Cayman Islands. “We are proud to have the Tortuga brand so well represented in Jamaica.”
