PFL Set for Quarterfinals

The first weekend of the new year kicks off with a bang this coming Saturday, January 6 at the historic home of Cayman football, the Annex Field, as the 2006/2007 CUC Primary Football League moves into the quarterfinal stage and the chance for 10 teams to advance in the competition. Refreshed, reinvigorated and full of holiday cheer, Cayman’s young football stars take to the field of glory and battle for a spot in the semifinals and the chance to etch their school’s name in the history books.

In the U-9 Champions Cup, 2005/2006 U-9 champions and undefeated John A. Cumber Primary take on George Town Primary and Bodden Town Primary battle newcomers Grace Wesleyan at 9:00 a.m., while Savannah Primary take on Cayman Prep and Cayman International School play Prospect Primary at 10:00 a.m.

In the U-11 Champions Cup, 2005/2006 champions John A. Cumber Primary look to repeat as winners but face a stubborn Crusader team from Triple C, while St. Ignatius Prep battle Red Bay Primary at 11:00 a.m. At noon, Savannah Primary take on a strong Cayman Prep team and Bodden Town Primary battle undefeated Prospect Primary.

In the U-11 Consolation Cup, North Side Primary take on East End Primary in an eastern district rivalry and the always enthusiastic Truth For Youth play the Golden Eagles from First Baptist at 1:00 p.m.

This Saturday’s victors will advance to the semifinal stage of the competition on Saturday, January 13 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Annex Field. A strong contingent of supporters are expected this weekend as school pride is on the line. A loss means the end of the season while a victory ensures another week of playing the beautiful game. For football fans young and old, the Annex is definitely the place to be this Saturday. The youngster’s need our full support as their talents, commitment, dedication and desire to entertain is always a wonderful thing to behold. Week in week out, the primary players lay it on the lineā€¦ this is their World Cup! Don’t miss it!
