Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited recently donated $4000 to the West Indies Rugby Union (WIRU), helping to send them to San Diego to compete in the USA World Seven Series. This tournament has become a significant feature in the global calendar of sports. The 2007 USA Sevens event will feature the world’s best national seven teams. Some of the countries participating in the USA Sevens are United States, Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies.
Greg Link of the WIRU said, ‘I am delighted to accept this sponsorship on behalf of the West Indies Rugby Union. This continuing support from Butterfield Bank will allow the WIRU to accept the invitation from the International Rugby Board to participate in the 2007 USA Sevens World Series to take place in San Diego, California in the U.S. This tournament hosts the elite players from around the world and will allow the West Indies to showcase the enormous rugby talent exists in this region.’
Butterfield Bank’s Monique Bush commented, ‘Butterfield Bank is delighted to again offer support to the WIRU. This is a world class event and we are proud to stand behind the West Indies team. We have hopes that through the presence of a Caribbean team in an event such as this, youth participation in the Caribbean will be encouraged.’
