An 18-year-old died early Tuesday in what appeared to be a one car accident on Grand Cayman’s east end.
The victim was found in a silver Honda Civic shortly after 4am when someone spotted him inside the wrecked vehicle on Sea View Road in the Frank Sound area, northwest of Heritage Beach.
The teen driver, identified as Davado Romar McField from Bodden Town, was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Services said it’s not clear when the wreck actually occurred.
Police are asking anyone who might have seen the silver Honda Civic driving in the area before the crash to contact investigating officer Acting Chief Inspector Adrian Barnett of the Traffic Management Unit at 926-2204.
The crash is the Cayman Islands’ first fatal wreck of 2007.
However, there’s been at least one other serious hit and run accident this month, which left 52-year-old Glen ‘Papa Sleepy’ Seymour in critical condition.
Relatives said Mr. Seymour was airlifted last week to University Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica where he’s under the care of a neurosurgeon.
In 2006, 14 people died on Cayman’s roads, including three young men in two separate car crashes right before Christmas.
