The PricewaterhouseCoopers Cayman Islands Open Tennis Championship is back with a vengeance!
Although the Cayman Islands Open Tournament has had a long history, dating back to 1974, this will be only the second year in which the tournament has offered prize money. This year’s Open will offer a total of $5,000 USD for the winners and runners-up of the men’s and women’s singles and doubles divisions. This purse is well above average for other tournaments offered in the Caribbean Region.
The Cayman Islands Tennis Club would like to thank and acknowledge the sponsor of this tournament, PricewaterhouseCoopers. The sponsor is responsible for all of the prize money that is being offered in hopes to attract a high level of competition for this year’s tournament.
The tournament will take place from January 24th to February 2nd, and there will be a high level of competition in the men’s and women’s open division. Eduardo Torres will be defending his title against a talented field of pros, including the likes of last year’s beaten finalist; Nigel Mitten and local teaching professionals; Richard Bulbring and Adam Bayley. The tournament will also include the two best female tennis players on the Island; Elena Skomorovsky and Adelette House, both who have played a high level of college tennis in the United States. Both the men’s and women’s open division will be played during the evening to enable everyone to come out and watch some great and exciting tennis at the Cayman Islands Tennis Club.
