The Museum’s popular souvenirs and cultural items – including national flags, Caymanite jewellery and thatch hats – is now available only from ‘Panton House’, which is located just a block away, said a GIS press release.
Panton House is situated on Ashford Panton Close, behind the Hard Rock Café on South Church Street, George Town.
The telephone number will remain the same – 949-8368.
Museum Director Anita Ebanks thanks the public for its patience as work continues on maintaining the historic building, adding that visitors should equally enjoy the experience of visiting the temporary Panton House gift shop.
The traditional style building, formerly serving as a stately home and more recently as the offices for Home Gas, is one of several historic buildings in the area known as Panton Square.
The wood frame building, also known as the Albert Ernest Panton House, is more than a century old, and is distinguished by its traditional veranda, intricate fretwork, and pitched gable roof.
Renovations to the National Museum have been ongoing to restore damage caused by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The building has been the home of the national collection of artefacts since 1990.
