CICC observes Honouring Women Month

Women at risk are the focus of the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre during the current Honouring Women Month.

CICC plans to continue its weekly support/informational group sessions at the Fairbanks Women’s Prison and to also facilitate presentations at the Young Parents Programme and the Frances Bodden Girls Home.

According to a centre release, all women need to be honoured and given the opportunity and information to protect themselves and their children and also to better themselves regardless of their situations.

Without the information to do so, they cannot be empowered to choose to change the course of their lives and value themselves enough to stand up against being violated.

The CICC hopes that, with this specified awareness campaign, it can prevent further violence against women at risk and give them the same hope and self confidence that all women should share.

In addition to this the CICC is celebrating its fourth anniversary of operations in serving victims of family violence.

In these past four years it has managed to support more than 200 women and their children and has received more than 400 crisis calls. There is an overwhelming need for the Cayman Islands community as a whole to join together and Honour women, the release stated.

At its most basic level, honouring women includes giving all women the right to freedom from violence and subjugation in their everyday lives.

By speaking out against domestic violence and sexual violence, the local community can truly honour our women, the statement added.

CICC urges that Cayman society in general adopts a zero tolerance policy in terms of how exploitation of women and girls is viewed.

Anyone aware of such abuse is asked to offer the individual care and support and inform them of their basic right of not being maltreated.

For questions, concerns, call the CICC 24 hours a day 943-2422.
