Dead man found in WB

A post mortem exam conducted on the body of an 80-year-old man found in a canal at Morgan’s Habour showed his death was consistent with drowning.

Walter Creuz, a German national who lived at Discovery Point on West Bay Rd., was found in the canal just south of Uncle Bob Road in West Bay late Tuesday afternoon.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said Mr. Creuz was last seen alive at his home address on Monday morning. Investigators said it’s not clear how he ended up in the water.

Police also said there were no signs of serious injuries or major wounds on the victim’s body.

‘We’re keeping an open mind, but there are no obvious signs that this death was suspicious,’ said RCIPS spokesperson Deborah Denis.

Ms Denis said, although the elderly man’s body was partially unclothed when it was found, he did not appear to be dressed as though he had gone for swim.

Mr. Creuz’s body was discovered just before 5pm by two young men returning from a fishing trip.

The father of one of the young men said they contacted MLA Captain Eugene Ebanks about the incident.

‘The two guys found him, and then they called me and I went over, and saw the body floating face down,’ said Captain Ebanks. ‘Kids swim down in that area a lot, but he’s an older guy. It’s unusual to see somebody like that swimming down there.’

Captain Ebanks, who said he docks his boat in the area, said it’s the first time he can remember anyone being found dead in that area near the harbour docks.
