Credit cards taken

A man who lost his wallet in October got it back again a few days later minus his debit card and credit card.

The woman who found the wallet appeared in Summary Court last Thursday where she admitted using his cards at several stores.

Sheily Vanessa Taylor-Downs, 24, pleaded guilty to 12 charges of obtaining property by deception and one of attempting to obtain.

In each transaction, she presented the card and signed the owner’s name.

She was not represented by an attorney and Magistrate Grace Donalds ordered a social inquiry report before sentencing.

Value of the goods totalled of CI$372.01.

The attempt to obtain property by deception related to a laptop computer valued at US$1,625.

Crown Counsel George Keightley said the owner of the wallet had not reported his cards missing because the defendant had contacted him. Therefore, the bank did not cover the thefts.

However, Mr. Keightley advised the court, Taylor-Downs’ family had reimbursed the wallet’s owner.

She was granted bail on condition that she surrenders her passport and provides a surety of $1,000.

She is to return to court 12 April for sentencing.
