Following questions from the public regarding permanent residency issues, the Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency Board Secretariat advises persons who have been legally and ordinarily resident in the Cayman Islands for 15 years, or more, of application exemptions and procedures.
Persons who believe that they have been legally and ordinarily resident in the Islands for 15 years or more (inclusive of their work permit in effect on 1 January 2004 and taking into account any period they spent in the Civil Service) are required to complete the standard application forms. However, they are exempt from the point system, as well as from taking the history and cultural test.
The Secretariat reminds the public that persons who have been legally and ordinarily resident in the Cayman Islands for 15 years or more, prior to 1 January 2007, must submit their applications for permanent residency before 31 March 2007.
It should be noted that persons who are only now reaching 15 years of legal and ordinary residence are not eligible for the above exemptions.
