Four legged friend’s tails will be wagging next Saturday, at the 15th annual Cayman Islands Humane Society Dog Show.
Young, old, big, small, pedigree or a Heinz 57, there’s a category for all at the event, set to be held at the Agriculture Pavilion, Lower Valley.

Last year a record 150 dogs took part in 22 categories and this year even more are expected to attend.
‘The show just keeps getting bigger and better each year,’ Cathy Richardson, event organiser said. ‘It’s all about fun and having a good time.’
Categories this year include the popular obstacle course – themed as a backyard – junior handlers, best rescued, puppies, first time entries, seniors and most personality, judged by J.B. and Accalia of Z99. Judges for all other categories are from the St. Matthew’s Veterinary School.
If a dog wins one category, they immediately qualify for the Best in Show. Last year’s winner saw a Cayman mixed-breed scoop up the grand prize for the first time in the show’s history, proving it’s not always the pedigrees that win prizes.
New this year will be a costume college challenge. Students of the local colleges are being encouraged to borrow a dog for the day from the Humane Society and enter it into the costume contest.
There will be prizes for the winners of each category, courtesy of Pedigree dog food and Animal House.
Providing a running commentary of the day’s proceedings will be MC Vicki Wheaton.
As you would expect at a dog show, there will be numerous booths catering to man’s best friend. Animal House, Island Vets, Cayman Animal Hospital and the Humane Society will all have a presence there. Animal Welfare Officer Maggie Balbino will also be on hand to answer questions.
Other organisations include the National Trust, the National Gallery and East End Primary School, which will be selling food to raise money for its planned playground. The Caymanites of Barnes Dance Academy will be face painting and selling homemade dog treats to raise money for their forthcoming trip to the US.
Entrance to the show is free. It costs $4 for each dog per category. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. All proceeds from the day go to the Humane Society. Pre-registration starts at 8am. Show time is from 9am to 1pm.
There is still room for more booths on the day. Contact Ms Richardson on 925-8180, or email [email protected].
