Grand Cayman has a new turtle release activity that you can participate in.
The programme is just being introduced in partnership with the Cayman Turtle Farm, Rogest Art and Divetech who have gotten together to make this wonderful experience available to everyone.
Visitors to the Cayman Islands can take a tour of the Cayman Turtle Farm, learn about Green Sea Turtles that are indigenous to the Cayman Islands, select a tagged turtle and then set it free in the ocean.
‘You will have a rewarding experience, learn a lot and become a steward of the marine environment, in this case, supporting of the repopulation of green sea turtles into the waters of Grand Cayman,’ says a press release.
The release notes that a yearling turtle for release will be tagged with a titanium flipper tag on their fore-flipper which identifies the individual animal and they will carry the name that the releaser gives it upon release.
The release a turtle programme has two participation levels to choose from. Your turtle will be a healthy, tagged one-year-old.
You can sponsor a turtle from your home or business for $185 and you will be notified of receipt and the date of release for your turtle. Staff from Divetech will pick up your turtle up from the Cayman Turtle Farm after it has been tagged and release it for you.
‘You will receive a personalized adoption certificate, photo of your turtle being released, Turtle Print by Rogest and the satisfaction that you have set a turtle free from the farm,’ the release says.
Or, you can sponsor a turtle while visiting and take part in setting it free for $250 and you will receive confirmation on the scheduling of your release. The programme is available any afternoon from 1.30 to 4pm.
