This year’s Island Living Show will be distinctly green.
The fifth annual show, which launches into action Friday, 22 June, will bring recycling to the forefront of visitors’ minds with its ‘Go Green’ theme.
Visitors will each receive a specially designed ‘Go Green’ bag. Ten thousand of the bio-degradable, re-usable bags have been ordered in especially for the show.
‘We really want to highlight to people how a few simple ‘green’ initiatives can go a long way to helping the planet,’ said Shawn Wilcox, general sales manager at Cayman 27, organisers of the event.
‘Recycling and the environment are starting to gain momentum in Cayman and are becoming a major focus of the island, as well as a common social theme,’ he said.
The eco-friendly bags are 100 per cent recyclable, non-toxic, non-corrosive, water repellent and non-allergenic, with the packing and carrying capacity of three to four plastic bags. The ‘Go Green’ bags will eliminate the need for exhibitors to hand out giveaways in plastic bags, which are a major contributor to Cayman’s landfill.
Visitors will be able to buy additional bags, priced $2 each, three for $5 and six for $10, with all proceeds going to various local charities.
