A Cayman Airways cargo plane landed safely at Owen Roberts Airport last week after its pilot reported a malfunction with the aircraft’s wing flaps.
Airport officials said the three person crew had problems getting the flaps to engage just before the plane’s scheduled landing late Thursday morning.
As a precaution, Cayman Islands Airport Authority CEO David Frederick said a full emergency was declared. Fire crews were put on standby at the airport runway, and police officers closed the street at the junction of Dorcy Dr. and Crewe Rd.
Mr. Frederick said the aircraft, which was not a commercial flight and which carried no passengers, burned off excess fuel by circling the area prior to landing.
Fire crews said the cargo plane landed at about 11.45am without incident.
