A rally was recently held to draw attention to primary school cricket.
The one day rally was held at Smith Road Oval on Friday 22 June. The competition started at 10am and lasted until 4pm. 5 schools fielded teams on the day.
In the final match, John A Cumber Primary School (JACPS) defeated Savan-nah Primary School.
Savannah batted first and posted 33 for 3. Heavy hitter Jason Ritch was un-able to perform as well as he did in the semi-finals when he hit over 6 sixes.
West Bay won without much drama as they reached 34 runs with an over to spare.
The rally was hosted by the Ministry of Sports. Games were restricted to 4 overs, with the final being five overs. Matches were held in a round-robin for-mat. The results on the day did not affect the season rankings.
According to event organizer Phillip Hackett, the rally has been running for quite sometime and this year underwent some changes.
‘This is the fourth year of the rally. At first, we thought it was an interest-ing way of starting the season. Nowadays, it’s generally held in the middle of the season.
‘This year scheduling issues caused it to be held later than normal.’
