Gerber recalls baby food

Gerber Products Co. has recalled all packages of its organic rice and organic oatmeal baby cereals because of potential clumping, which can pose a choking hazard.

Gerber said it has received complaints of choking but no reports of injury.

The company said a limited quantity of the cereals could contain lumps that do not dissolve in water or milk. The cereals were distributed nationwide and to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

Foster’s Food Fair IGA has pulled all the affected Gerber Organic Rice and Organic Oatmeal Cereals product from its shelves.

‘Until we have a guarantee of the safety of this affected product moving forward, it will not be available,’ states a press release from Foster’s. ‘We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, however the safety of our customers and their children is our top priority. We encourage all customers who have purchased these products to return the affected product to their Foster’s Food Fair IGA of purchase for a full refund.’

Gerber Organic Rice and Organic Oatmeal cereals are sold in eight ounce boxes and all codes are being recalled. Gerber Organic Rice UPC Code is 15000 12504. Gerber Organic Oatmeal UPC Code is 15000 12502. These numbers can be found on the bottom right side of the box.
