The Corona Summer Slam Volleyball tournament, sponsored by Island Oasis and Blackbeards, is being held at the Marriott Beach Resort Saturday, 25 August from 9am to 7pm.
The fundraiser will help the CI Volleyball Federation to buy much needed equipment, say organisers.
Locals, expats and tourists can sign up for a four/ five person team and enjoy the Marriott’s world class facilities, including the resort’s new Corona Pool bar.
Up to 13 co-ed teams (a minimum of one female per team) can take part in the competitive contest, say organisers.
The tournament will be divided into two categories so that all teams have an equal chance to win prizes.
Giveaways and prizes include a selection of swag from Blackbeards, Island Oasis, the Marriott and Corona.
Competitors and spectators will be able to enjoy Corona drinks specials and bar food throughout the tournament, organisers confirm.
An outdoor beach barbeque buffet and entertainment under the stars will be available once the tourney wraps.
Organisers say that the beach barbeque is scheduled to become a weekly event.
Team registration is $100 per squad. The registration deadline is next Friday. Those interested can register via email at [email protected] or by calling Carl on 925-1456.
The CI Annual Blackbeards Mudslide Competition – try saying that after few – kicks off at Rackams by Waterfront Sunday, 26 August.
The second annual drinks from 2-7pm event is back with a vengeance after a four year break and promises to be bigger and better than ever, say organisers.
At its zenith, the drinks competition was said to be one of the highlights of the local hospitality industry events, showcasing the skills of staff in Grand Cayman’s bars and restaurants.
The contest will display the mudslide making talents of anywhere between 10 and 15 teams. Each team will have a captain and up to three other staff, organisers confirm.
The mudslide competition is said to be one-of-a-kind in Grand Cayman as it lets the public decide the winners.
For $25 a head, attendees can enjoy a mudslide from each team before making their final decision. This year’s categories are: The Best Overall Mudslide, The Best Looking Mudslide and the Most Attractive Booth.
Prizes include cash, gift certificates and restaurant vouchers.
Among the slew of teams signing up for the event are Coconut Joe’s, last year’s winners of The Best Overall Mudslide with Chef Neil’s Crème Brule Mudslide.
The award ceremony starts at sunset at roughly 7.30pm.
