It was about as inevitable as Paris Hilton leaving prison early. Man Utd beat Spurs 1-0 at home on Sunday. The Tottenham camp is not a happy one so Utd were odds on favourites to pick up their first win of the season. Nani proved he’s no ninny with a fabulous 30 yard strike to compound a miserable week for Paul Robinson, the England keeper. He was at fault again on international duty against Germany on Wednesday then clutched at thin air as Nani’s shot sailed past him.
If Jol gets the chop after three defeats in four games, their ground should be renamed White Heartless Lane. After taking them to fifth spot the last two seasons, even a bad start doesn’t warrant the axe so soon. There are domestic cups to play for as well. Maybe they won’t finish in the top four now, but European football is pretty certain. If Spurs fire him now, Jol be sorry.
Tottenham must feel annoyed that they sold Mido to Middlesbrough in the summer. He hit his second of the season in the draw against Newcastle on Sunday.
Rob Styles is one of those controversial referees that everyone has a favourite gripe about. As Chelsea climbed to the top of the table on Saturday and regained their rightful place in the Prem, they must still be thanking him for his generosity last Sunday in awarding the dubious penalty at Liverpool that earned a draw.
Styles admitted a wrong decision and got a one match ban for poor officiating. He could be in even hotter water though because he admitted that his building company paved the driveway of Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner. Conflict of interest? Never. Rob the Builder is good enough at digging holes for himself without Chelsea’s help.
