The flag football playoffs have gone exactly to expectations with the teams with only one loss between them meeting tomorrow.
It’s the Zulu’s Cayman Islands Flag Football final and the only loss was Margaritaville West Bay Hellcats beating Digicel in the league in the only meeting between the two teams this season.
This game should provide plenty of excitement and if the conference finals last weekend are any indication fans are in for a great finale to the season. Margaritaville staged a late effort to defeat Next Level 8-7 in the dying seconds and Digicel dominated Hammerheads to win 20-0.
Hellcats, who are undefeated this year, will be looking to their veteran leadership to help them cap an incredible run. They will be heavily dependent on their QB ‘Frecko’ Ebanks who was the offensive player of the year in the league. Ebanks will be looking to his offensive line of Ike and Barry Bush and Adrean ‘Big Dog’ Russell to give him the protection he has had all year. If they are able to afford Ebanks the time he needs it could be a long afternoon for the Digicel defense.
On the defensive side, the Hellcats will need Craig ‘Festa’ Fredericks to come up with a big game in stopping the running attack of Digicel . This is a key component to the Hellcats controlling the game. If not this will put extra pressure on the D-backs and linebackers who have picked off 28 passes this year, far more than any other defense.
Digicel will depend on their multi- faceted offense to control the ball and keep it out of the Hellcats offense’s hands. Luigi ‘Hova’ Moxam in his second full year at the helm of the Spartan attack is key to making this attack click. Another key part of the attack is Oliver ‘Darkstar’ Parker who leads the league in rushing touchdowns. With the right mix of run and pass plays Digicel will be able to keep the Hellcats defense on their heels and off balance. If Leslie Harvey plays and there is no confirmation yet on whether he will return to the Digicel lineup, it could be a long afternoon for the Hellcats defense. Harvey leads Digicel with 22 receptions. On the defensive side, the Spartans will look to ball hawk Jeff Wright and Harvey who have 12 interceptions between them on the year. The defensive line led by George Bustillo needs to put pressure on the West Bay QB and this is the key for the Digicel defense, if they can rush the West Bay offense it may lead to a couple of turnovers.
All in all it looks to be a great afternoon of football at the Outpost Field tomorrow, starting 3.30pm.
