Boatswain’s Beach has partnered with the Cayman Islands Government Department of Probation and Aftercare to allow offenders to hone and learn valuable skills at the park while serving their community service sentences.
This partnership existed between the Cayman Turtle Farm and the Probation Aftercare Unit since the mid ’90s but dwindled after Hurricane Ivan, said a press release from Boatswain’s.
Chief Operating Officer Joey Ebanks has now reinstated the partnership which had formerly developed many success stories.
‘All great organisations seek to extend the value they bring to the community they operate in through community service,’ he said.
Boatswain’s aims to aid the Probation Aftercare Unit in the rehabilitation of offenders, encouraging successful reintegration into society and enabling them to make better decisions for themselves and the community.
‘Community involvement and support is an essential part of the rehabilitation process,’ said Teresa Echenique Bowen, Director, Department of Probation and Aftercare.
‘The Department of Probation and Aftercare is very pleased to have Boatswain’s Beach as a placement provider for the Community Service Programme. It is anticipated that this joint effort will be beneficial to both Boatswain’s Beach and the persons performing community service.’
