A man who sustained a gunshot wound in the leg last November was remanded in custody this week on firearms charges.
Andrew Elias Powery, 21, of West Church Street, West Bay, appeared before Magistrate Grace Donalds on Tuesday.
He is charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Crown Counsel Kirsty-Ann Gunn said the Crown elected to take the matter to Grand Court.
Defence Attorney Phillip McGhee applied for bail, arguing that it could be months before the matter would be heard in Grand Court.
Mrs. Gunn pointed out that, according to the 2005 amendment to the Bail Law, the presumption is against bail in firearms offences.
The magistrate withheld bail and set a preliminary inquiry for 9 October. If it goes ahead, Powery would appear in Grand Court on 7 November.
