As a past chairman of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands I wish to congratulate the Trust on its 20th Anniversary.
The members of the Trust and staff have done a tremendous job over the years and it cannot be overstated the significance of this work.
The Trust has worked tirelessly in its efforts to preserve historic sites and to protect environmentally sensitive lands and the plant and animal life that inhabit these areas, many indigenous to these Islands. It has done a phenomenal job in educating persons, most importantly, the youth of these Islands about ‘tings’ Caymanian, from Caymanian cooking to thatch work to name a few.
The Trust can boast accomplishments such as the Botanic Park, Mastic Trail, the Blue Iguana Program, restoration of the Mission House and the list goes on.
I encourage all to support the Trust whether through monetary donations or through the giving of time or other resources. It is important to protect, preserve and to educate persons about our culture, heritage and environment as the Trust has been doing.
This is the key if we are to maintain the uniqueness and beauty of these Islands that has brought visitors to these shores time and time again. It is also important that the youth of these Islands know their heritage and history and are in touch with their natural environment, as one should not underestimate the importance of these things in terms of establishing one’s identity and pride in one’s community, while protecting and promoting our Tourism product.
The Trust has achieved a lot in the past 20 years and I look forward to their continued success in the future. I congratulate and wish all members and staff a happy 20th anniversary and may the Trust continue to grow from strength to strength.
