After many weeks of speculation and officials remaining mum on the issue, the Board of Directors of Boatswain’s Beach has confirmed that Ken Hydes has resigned as Managing Director.
Mr. Hydes |
A press release on behalf of the Board, sent out by the Ministry of Tourism, Environment, Investment and Commerce, noted that Mr. Hydes resigned effective last Friday, 14 September, 2007.
The release stated that Mr. Hydes expressed his sincere appreciation to the shareholders of Cayman Turtle Farm (1983) Limited, the Board of Directors, the people of the Cayman Islands and, most importantly, the staff of the company for their support over the past 14 years saying, ‘During this time it has been my pleasure to be a part of the most unique facility in the Cayman Islands and to work towards its development as a world class attraction.’
In making the official announcement, Chairman of the Board Joel Walton said, ‘The Board of Directors wishes Mr. Hydes the best with all of his future endeavours and recognises his significant contribution to both the development of Boatswain’s Beach and the entire tourism industry of the Cayman Islands.’
Mr. Hydes, who also resigned as Secretary of the Board of Directors of Cayman Turtle Farm (1983) Limited, said he is leaving in pursuit of a number of personal interests, but promises to remain in the tourism industry in Cayman.
Chief Operations Officer Joey Ebanks will act as Managing Director and Secretary to the Board during an interim six-month period, pending further Board discussions and decision, said the release.
For some weeks the Caymanian Compass has been trying to confirm if Mr. Hydes had, or was in the process of, resigning from his post.
A week ago Mr. Walton confirmed to the newspaper that he was in discussions with Mr. Hydes and a press release on the issue would be forthcoming.
Mr. Hydes was nominated for and won the Cayman Islands Tourism Association’s Cayman Stingray Tourism Award for Allied member Manager of the Year last year in his post as Managing Director of Boatswain’s Beach.
